Easy Checklist on Setting up a Special Economic Zone Company

Setting up a Special Economic Zone company (SEZ) might seem like a daunting and time-consuming task to undergo. However, Cayman Enterprise City (CEC) alleviates the stress that comes with this, walking with you every step of the way, even after the setup is done. By following our easy checklist below, your Cayman company can be set up in as little as 4-6 weeks.

1. Evaluate Your Business Fit
What SEZ does your business fall into? CEC is home to three unique special economic zones, offering business services and solutions to a wide range of business sectors. In order to choose your sector, let's look more in-depth into CEC's business zones.

Once decided, we will need you to choose your package (Start up, Growth or Enterprise). Use this video to evaluate the benefits of each package. Still have a question? No worries, our Global Mobility team can set up a quick call to run through the options – Contact Us!

2. Incorporate your Cayman Islands Company

This is typically done through a local attorney. CEC works with all local firms and are pleased to make introductions as needed. During this process your lawyer will need 2-3 paragraphs from you explaining what your company does. This is necessary for them to review your company activities and ensure they align with the SEZs law.

3. CEC License Approval

When details of your SEZ business have been confirmed, including;

  • company name
  • registered office address
  • chosen workspace solution
  • term of your agreement
  • chosen start date

Our Global Mobility Team will create an account for you in CEC’s Online Portal. You can then log in to review and approve your CEC License Agreement.

4. Deposit Based on Your Chosen Workspace Solution.

5. Apply For Zone Trade Certificate (ZTC)

This allows your entity to conduct business in the Cayman Islands, and Zone Employment Certificates (ZECs), which will allow you and your team members to work in the Cayman Islands. The CEC Global Mobility team will assist you with the preparation of your application documents, with the gathering of all required due diligence documentation, and will review and file your application on your behalf.

What you’ll need to get ready:

  • Notarized/Certified Colour Copy of a Valid Passport.
  • CV
  • Certificate of Incorporation
  • Register of Directors
  • Register of Members
  • Memorandum & Articles of Association
  • Notarized/Certified Utility Bill & Address Verification Letter or Bank Reference letter/Professional Character Reference.

6. Pack Your Suitcase/ Move into The Zone

As soon as your ZTC and ZEC(s) are approved, you will be ready to move in and join the CEC Community. Our serviced offices are fully furnished and thoughtfully designed so that you can plug in and begin working as soon as you arrive. Each new community member is welcomed into the zone by way of an onboarding session. You’ll meet the team, get acquainted with the campus, and receive access to our community website, which offers opportunities to connect with the wider CEC community and provides helpful resources.
