Cayman Enterprise City and UCCI are partnering to prepare today’s students for careers in STEM.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

CEC told Cayman 27 some tech companies are hesitant to set up a physical presence in the Special Economic Zone due to a perceived lack of skilled workers in STEM.

UCCI and CEC are working together to build a pipeline of qualified candidates to alleviate those concerns.

“What we need to do compete as a jurisdiction for the business of these bigger companies is to show them this can work, we do have a solution for you, for your staffing issues,” said CEC CEO Charlie Kirkconnell.

“We can provide young people that these companies can recruit and train in the specializations of the companies after giving them the proper background here in science, technology, engineering and math,” said UCCI President Roy Bodden.

Mr. Bodden told Cayman 27 STEM subjects like robotics and drone technology are gaining popularity on campus, especially among the female student body.
